became one of the principal masters in the Friedrichs-Gymnasium of Königsberg, where he assisted his colleague, the Germanist Friedrich Karl Köpke (1785-1865) with his edition of Rudolf von Ems' Barlaam und Josaphat (1818), and also assisted his friend in a contemplated edition of the works of Walther von der Vogelweide. In January 1818 he became professor extraordinarius of classical philology in the university of Königsberg, and at the same time began to lecture on Old German grammar and the Middle High German poets. He devoted himself during the following seven years to an extraordinarily minute study of those subjects, and in

Kernel (software engineering)
It is a piece of software responsible for providing secure multiplexing and arbitration of a machine's hardware. Kernels usually also implement a set of hardware abstractions that provide a clean interface to the underlying hardware. There are three broad categories of kernels : Monolithic kernels provide rich and powerful abstractions of the underlying hardware. Microkernels provide a small set of simple hardware abstractions and use applications called servers to provide more functionality. Exokernels provide no abstractions but allow the use of libraries to provide more functionality via direct or nearly direct access to hardware. a prime site for development as the Kentish Town Road was the main route for the growing city of London to the North. 1877 saw the beginning of mission work in the area as it was then poor. The mission first held their services outside but as their funding increased they built a mission house, chapel, and vicarage. In 1912 the Church of St. Silas the Martyr was finally erected and consecrated, and by December of that year it became a parish in its own right. It can still be seen today along with the church of St Luke with St

He won two Emmy Awards for The Civil War and one for Baseball. Ken Burns Effect In film editing, non-linear editing systems such as iMovie (from Apple Computer) sometimes have an option named Ken Burns Effect, where a still image may be incorporated into a film using a slow pan and zoom. It is also seen in screensavers, such as those that make use of libraries of digital photographs on a computer's hard disk. External Links Ken Burns PBS

persecuted by both Iraq and Turkey. Turkey bans the use of the Kurdish language, and refuses to recognize them as an ethnic group but Kurds may take their place in any part of Turkish life including the National Assembly. Iraq has launched poison gas attacks against Kurdish towns or villages. Some improvements in Kurdish rights have however been made under pressure from the European Union. The European Union has made membership for Turkey conditional on, among other things, better treatment of its Kurdish minority. In August 2002, Turkey accepted the EU's conditions, and amended certain of its restrictions on the Kurds.

JavaServer Pages
JavaServer Pages JSP or JavaServer Pages is a Java technology that allows developers to dynamically generate HTML, XML or some other type of web page. The technology allows java code and certain pre-defined actions to be embedded into static content. The JSP syntax adds additional XML tags, called JSP actions, to be used to invoke built-in functionally. Additionally, the technology allows for the creation of JSP tag libraries that act as extensions to the standard HTML or XML tags. Tag libraries provide a platform independent way of extending the capabilities of a web server. JSPs are compiled into Servlets by

On the celebration activities surrounding the 40th anniversary Meredith said, "It was an embarrassment for me to be there, and for somebody to celebrate it, oh my God" James Meredith views himself as an individual American citizen who demanded and got the rights properly extended to any American, not as a participant in the US civil rights movement. There is considerable disrespect between James Meredith and the organized Civil Rights Movement. Meredith said recently that "Nothing could be more insulting to me than the concept of civil rights. Unfortunately these editions, brought out in great haste and often inadequately edited, did not come up to the requirements of modern criticism. Nevertheless, the scope of the Patrologia makes it unique and valuable, where other editions of special works still do not exist. The indices, in three volumes, are arranged so that one may easily find any reference in the patristic writings. The collection

In order to give the claims added legitimacy, he invented a new heir, who he married to become James Addison Peralta-Reavis. Reavis re-submitted his claim in 1888 but didn't stick around to watch the fireworks. In 1889 Royal Johnson submitted his own report, a massive six-year study that pointed out a number of problems in the deeds that clearly showed them to be a fake. Java Native Interface
Java Native Interface The Java Native Interface (JNI) is a programming framework that allows Java code running in the Java virtual machine (VM) to call and be called by native applications (programs specific to a hardware and operating system platform) and libraries written in other languages, such as C++ and assembly. The JNI is used to write native methods to handle situations when an application cannot be written entirely in the Java programming language such as when the

Sayer was always at his best when attacking Fox, whose strong features he portrayed with remarkable power, always so as to make them convey expressions of defiant impudence or anger. Pitt, not known as a patron of the arts, provided Sayer with a place as marshal of the Exchequer court. He died in Curzon Street, Mayfair. Sayer's "Carlo Khan" has been frequently reproduced. same VHDL code could be synthezied differently for lowest cost, most power efficient, highest speed, etc. The initial version of VHDL, to standard IEEE 1076-1987, included a wide range of data types, including numerical (integer and real), logical (bit and boolean), character and time, plus arrays of bit called bit_vector and of character called string. A problem not solved by this edition, however, was "multi-valued logic", where a signal's drive strength (none, weak or strong) and unknown values are also considered. This required IEEE standard 1164, which defined the 9-value std_logic. The second issue of IEEE 1

JDBC type 1 driver
known as the JDBC-ODBC bridge is a database driver implementation that employs the ODBC driver to connect to the database. The driver converts JDBC method calls into ODBC function calls. The bridge is usually used when there is no pure-Java driver available for a particular database. The driver is implemented in the sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver class and comes with the Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition. The driver is platform-dependent as it makes use of ODBC which in turn depends on native libraries of the operating system. Also, using this driver has got other dependencies such as ODBC must be installed on the computer

Virtual memory
realized in a swap partition, a dedicated section of disk in order to hold paged memory, or in a swap file. The most fundamental advantage of virtual memory is that it allows a computer to multiplex its CPU and memory between multiple programs without the need to perform expensive copying of the programs' memory images. It also allows the operating system to protect its own code from corruption by an erroneous application program and to protect application programs from each other and (to some extent) from themselves. If the combination of virtual memory system and operating system supports swapping, then the
